Alicat Workboats Limited, Great Yarmouth’s specialist provider of aluminium catamarans can report that it has successfully completed its first vessel build since its launch in 2009

Based at Richards Dry Dock and Engineering (RDDE), Alicat’s team of highly skilled and experienced workforce constructed a brand new aluminium metre catamaran, to be named, the Gardian in less than 9 months. The Gardian is also the first boat of its type to be built and launched in the Norfolk town.

At 21.5 metres in length, the Gardian is a multi-purpose vessel ideally suited for turbine transfers for operation and maintenance crew, as well as providing a platform for marine mammal and bird surveys including mitigation work. All of which are essential during the construction of offshore wind farms.

Alicat has recently installed a brand new repair and maintenance dock at RDDE and it also has access to the Yarmouth shipyards dry dock, which now offers full steel and aluminium repair and all associate marine trades, and a brand new marine engine test centre with dyno facilities up to 2000HP.

Steve Thacker, Alicat Workboats General Manager comments:

“This is a huge achievement for us and the future of Alicat Workboats and a credit to our workforce.” It also helps establish Great Yarmouth with an important role to play in the fast growing renewables market.”

Alicat is to launch the catamaran at Sea Work International in Southampton – a highly respected boat show. Following the show Alicat will commence new builds of three new catamarans meanwhile, the Gardian, will commence her first project off the UK’s West Coast.
